Translate Your App – Business
Localize your .NET, MAUI and Windows applications in your browser, with your own Azure AI Translator resource.
Open your project folder, translate, review, and save the translated resource files back where they belong. Your files never leave your computer; only the text of each string goes to your Azure resource.
Translate Your App – Business is the browser edition of our application-localization tool. It reads .resx and .resw resource files, keeps industry-standard XLIFF work files with every string's status, translates only what changed, enforces your terminology, and blocks a release when a translation would crash your application. It is free to use. You supply the Azure AI Translator resource from your own Azure subscription; Microsoft bills you for usage above the free tier, and Freytag & Company never sees your key.
How it extends Microsoft products and services
Translate Your App – Business works on Microsoft's own resource file formats and translates them with a Microsoft service. It reads and writes
.resx and .resw, the files .NET, .NET MAUI, WPF and WinUI applications keep their text in, and the industry-standard XLIFF work files those tools exchange. Every translation is
performed by Azure AI Translator, in your own Azure subscription.
It also fills a gap Microsoft left. Microsoft's Multilingual App Toolkit
reached end of support on
15 October 2025, and Microsoft advises its users to "consider using a similar Computer-Aided Translation (CAT) tool that supports" the XLIFF format. This is such a tool, working on the same resource
files and the same XLIFF work files, in a browser.
- Azure AI Translator performs every translation, in your Azure resource, with your key or your Microsoft Entra ID sign-in.
- Azure App Service serves this application from www.freytag.us. After the page loads, all work runs in your browser; our server does no translation work and stores no data.
- Microsoft Entra ID can sign in your work account so that no key is typed into the browser. See the help page for how to turn it on.
- .resx, .resw and XLIFF 1.2 and 2.0 are read and written in place, so the files stay usable by Visual Studio, by the Windows edition of this tool,
and by any translation agency.
What makes it "Business"
Translation memory
Approved translations are remembered and reused, so identical strings are never paid for or reviewed twice. The memory is a plain file you keep in version control.
Glossary enforcement
Required terms are pinned in every Azure request and checked in every result. Product names can be marked "do not translate."
Placeholder and markup checks
A missing {0} crashes an app at run time. Placeholders and tags are protected on the wire and verified afterward; problems block export.
Review workflow and XLIFF
Every string carries a status: Untranslated, Needs Review, Reviewed, Final. Work files are XLIFF 1.2 or 2.0 that any translation agency can open.
Pseudo-localization
One click writes a test language that exposes clipped layouts and hard-coded text before a single word is translated.
Same files as the Windows app
The browser edition reads and writes the same project file, work files, glossary and memory as Translate Resx/Resw, our Windows edition. Move a project between them freely.
How it works
- 1 Open your project folder in the browser (Chrome or Edge save files in place; other browsers download a zip).
- 2 Choose the source resource file and your target languages.
- 3 Enter your Azure AI Translator key, or sign in with Microsoft, and translate.
- 4 Review every machine suggestion in the worksheet; approve or fix it.
- 5 Run the checks and export the translated resource files. Build and ship.
Pricing
The application is free. It needs your own Azure subscription and an Azure AI Translator resource. Azure's free tier translates two million characters a month and does not expire; above that, Microsoft bills your subscription at its published rates. Freytag & Company charges nothing for the application and receives nothing from your Azure usage.
Paid help is available. If you want us to set up your Azure resource, build your glossary and translation memory from existing translations, onboard your team, or add custom checks, contact us for a quote.
Privacy and requirements
- Resource files are read and written on your computer.
- The text of each string is sent to your own Azure AI Translator resource, and nowhere else.
- Your key stays in your browser tab. It is never sent to Freytag & Company.
- Requires a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. In-place saving needs Chrome or Edge.
